Role of Cannabidiol in Treatment of Asthma

Asthma is classified as an atopic disease, where allergens induce clinical airway inflammation, bronchial spasm, and obstruction of airways. T-helper 2 lymphocytes are found in the lung of patients with asthma. These cells are involved in cytokine production that regulates immunoglobulin synthesis. T cell interaction with antigens/allergens is key to the development of inflammatory diseases. In this study asthma was induced then received CBD. Cannabidiol reduced levels of all inflammatory cytokines including TNF but not the single anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10. “CBD seems to be a potential new drug to modulate inflammatory response in asthma.”
